Vitiligo Disease

An area of skin which is completely free of pigment and therefore quite white. Patches of vitiligo vary in shape and size and may occur just about anywhere on the body. The adjacent area of skin is often rather darker than usual and patches of vitiligo tend to increase in size as time goes by. In white-skinned individuals, vitiligo often goes unnoticed but on dark skins it can be both very visible and extremely embarrassing.

Vitiligo seems to be an inherited disorder. It does not cause any other problems, it is not contagious and it is not dangerous. Camouflage creams are the only way to deal with the condition, which may improve partially but rarely disappears.
